Workers from an electronics factory in China went viral on social media after sharing a glimpse of their work routine.
The employees work in factories in the city of Chongqing, which is responsible for producing about half of the world’s laptops.
Despite the economic boom the city has experienced over the years, the workers went viral after sharing their hard work routines.
A user on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) posted a video where he prepares for a workday. He wakes up in a bunk bed, in a small dark room, before washing his face and brushing his teeth to head off to work.
Just before starting his shift, he appears in a huge cafeteria, packed with thousands of other coworkers, where he is given a mushy meal for breakfast.
After finishing the meal, he films himself in a locker room, where he leaves his phone before starting work. Therefore, he couldn’t film what it is like to work in the factory. But after returning, he looks quite exhausted.
Another worker from an electronics company in Chongqing also went viral by showing what his 12-hour night shift looks like. Starting his shift just before 8 p.m., the young man filmed himself as he put on his gear.
Since he isn’t allowed to film inside the factory, the video cuts to a few hours later when the worker appears in the cafeteria for dinner, eating a meal of rice, chicken, and soup.
The videos offer a glimpse into the hard work of factory workers in China. With few labor rights, most workers work long hours and receive very low wages.
